The black sheep of the family

Black sheep

The term “black sheep of the family”, refers to an odd or disreputable member of a group, especially within a family. Figuratively, it refers to the deviant member of the family.

The questions we need to ask ourselves are: Why is the one referred to as the black sheep so different from the other family members? What part have we played to be in a family that has a black sheep? What is our role in such a situation?

These questions can only be answered satisfactorily if we have a firm understanding of the immutable workings of the Laws of Creation. This will open us up to the recognition of the Will of God Almighty, which permits of no accidents in Creation. Everything He Created is Perfect, and thus His Creation is governed by Laws that operate independently.

One of these Laws is the Law of Attraction of Similar Species. This Law manifests itself in the general saying that “like attracts like” or “birds of a feather flock together”. With this in mind, then we must accept the reality that we have in one way or another attracted that person (the so called black sheep) into our homes. Many possibilities exist in this regard. It may be as a result of the pregnant woman mingling with people who are not necessarily homogeneous with her but her association with them forms a point of attraction. Secondly, it may be as a consequence of another Law of Creation called the ‘Law of Sowing and Reaping’ , meaning the family members may have at one time lived or acted in a manner that necessitated that they experience such a person in the family; in order to expiate some ties.

So we must bear in mind that it is not by accident that we are in the same family with a black sheep. In both cases, family members should be loving and take whatever lessons they have to learn from dealing with someone who is completely different from other members of the family. This situation offers the opportunity to love unconditionally, to learn patience, endurance and perseverance.

When living with and relating with such family member, it is important to have empathy for him because the situation makes everyone concerned not to be on an even playing field. That is not to say that the black sheep cannot change or make attempts to at least understand his or her own behavior and how to contribute to the family dynamics. With self-awareness comes the ability to stop blaming everyone else and begin asking such question as ‘How have I contributed to the situation, how am I contributing to the situation and what can I do to change the situation for good?’

This is already the first step in the right direction. That realization helps to make amends so as not to further be burdened with fresh threads of fate. Living consciously in that family will help the ‘black sheep’ to be better integrated and accepted into the family.

Preventing a ‘black sheep’ from coming into a family requires a conscious effort especially from the expectant mother. She should take the necessary care throughout the process of coming into being of man, through the act of procreation, through incarnation and finally birth. She should be mindful of her environment and the people she allows close to her especially until about the middle of pregnancy when the waiting spirit in the Beyond takes over the growing foetus or body. Her inner spiritual state also plays a huge part in this and so she should stand in prayer to be able to attract the “right” kind of child to the family. If she associates herself with people that are not similar with her or members of her immediate household, then the possibility of attracting a ‘black sheep’ will be very high through such associations.

In conclusion, we must be grateful to The Creator for the opportunity offered us with every new birth. Living with someone who is a deviant can be challenging but if we take a deeper look at the situation and accept it, we can only become better individuals as we learn patience, endurance, diligence, and all other qualities required in establishing a harmonious living within the family unit.
